ROLE OF INGREDIENTS

 

Acesulfame Potassium
      •    a calorie-free sweetener 
      •    often used in combination with other low-calorie sweeteners because it enhances the sweet 
            taste of foods and beverages.

 

Ascorbic Acid  
      •    a form of Vitamin C used to fortify our beverages 
      •    added to provide 100% of the daily recommended intake of Vitamin C

 

Cane and Beet Sugar
      •    Cane sugar is refined from sugarcane plants
      •    Beet sugar is extracted from beets
      •    Both sources provide the sugar sucrose (see sucrose, below)

 

Citric Acid 
      •    the predominant acid present in citrus fruits 
      •    used to maintain the sweet-tart balance of the product

 
Filtered Water 
      •    all our manufacturing facilities use filtered water

 

 Fumaric Acid
      •    an organic compound that occurs naturally in plants 
      •    used to maintain the sweet-tart balance in the product

 

Glucose - Fructose
      •    simple sugars found in most fruits and honey 
      •    added to balance the sweet-tart taste of cranberries

 

Malic Acid 
      •    the predominant acid present in apples 
      •    used to maintain the sweet-tart balance in the product
 

Natural Flavours 
      •    added to enhance overall flavour
 

Pectin 
      •    added to give a fuller mouth feel to juice 
      •    also occurs naturally in cranberries and is responsible for gelling cranberry sauces
 

Pulp 
      •    grapefruit pulp occurs naturally in grapefruit and gives a fuller mouth feel to the juice
 

Sucralose 
      •    a zero-calorie sweetener made from sugar 

Sucrose 
      •    usually comes from sugar cane or sugar beets.  It is table sugar.  
      •    the most common sugar responsible for the characteristically sweet taste of food and beverages

 

Sodium Citrate
      •    an ingredient to balance off the flavours in juices. 
      •    used to balance the acidity in cocktails

 

Sunflower Oil 
      •    used to prevent Craisins® Sweetened Dried Cranberries from clumping as they are packaged
